Planting the Seeds of Education
At Iowa City Landscaping and Garden Center, we want to share our knowledge with you. We offer seminars, workshops ,and special events throughout the year on topics including Container Gardening, Landscape Design, Integrated Pest Management, Basic Horticulture, Vegetable Gardening, Edible Landscaping, and much, much more. Our popular terrarium workshop is being offered again. A selection of containers will be available for purchase, or bring your own container from home. A $20 fee covers instruction, foundational elements of gravel, charcoal, peat moss, potting soil, decorative moss, and 3 plants. Additional miniature decor will be available for purchase as well.

“Know-Maintenance” Landscaping and Gardening

The Art of Kokedama Workshop
Discover the ancient Japanese art of Kokedama, the practice of suspending the root ball in mud then covering it with moss. The moss balls are a living planter for your favorite specimen plant. It can be hung or mounted in your home for an interesting focal point.

Tried-and-True Shrubs & Perennials
Andy Swartzentruber, ICL & GC Landscape Designer: Learn about low maintenance trees, shrubs, and perennials that ICL designers frequently use. These reliable plants will look great in your yard with very little effort on your part! If you’re wanting to transition to a low maintenance yard or starting from a blank slate this seminar would be perfect for you.

Air Plants as Art Workshop
Design your own framed air plant art for your home. Arrange air plants and pieces of bark in the pre-assembled frame to make a unique piece of plant art. Instruction on how to care for air plants will be included. Additional air plants and decor will be available for purchase as well.

Pruning Tips and Techniques
Ed Rinderspacher, Owner of Rindy Inc.: Start thinking about what pruning you’ll need to do in your garden this spring. Ed will guide you through pruning techniques and the best time of year to prune trees and shrubs. This educational talk is a great introduction for beginners and a good refresher for experts.
